Heavy bombing rocks Tehran a day after Khamenei killed as conflict widens

Iranian outlets have confirmed that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed during airstrikes carried out on Saturday.

According to state media, a temporary leadership body — made up of the country’s president, the head of the judiciary, and a senior cleric from the Guardian Council — will take over the supreme leader’s responsibilities for now.

Iran has also acknowledged the deaths of four top military figures: Mohammad Pakpour, Ali Shamkhani, Abdolrahim Mousavi, and Aziz Nasirzadeh, all senior commanders within the Islamic Republic’s armed forces.

In response, Iran carried out retaliatory strikes aimed at Israel and several countries across the region, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar.

The U.S. Defense Department said its campaign against Iranian targets is operating under the name Operation Epic Fury, while Israel has labeled its offensive Lion’s Roar.
